Seagulls in Bangpu Thailand

During the months of November to April, every year there will be seagulls escaping the cold from Siberia, Mongolia, Tibet and China. One of the good place that suitable for watching these seagulls is Bang Pu or Bang Pu Resort. Understandable that the seagulls want to be in this area most probably because this area has a rich mangrove forest and is a good food source for them.

Bang Pu or the officially named as Bang Pu Resort is a tourist destination in the Gulf of Thailand, one of Thailand’s famous beach resorts. Bang Pu was built in the year 2480, according to the idea of Field Marshal Pibulsongkram, Prime Minister at that time. There are a totally area of 639 rai and in later, the bridge “Suk Ta Bridge” was built. Suk Ta Bridge is considered an important symbol of this Bang Pu resort, which later, there is a building at the end of the bridge, named “Sala Sukjai” and currently is a restaurant. On this Suk Ta bridge is the best place to see seagulls in Bang Pu and as well can watch the sunset here.

Bang Pu mangrove forests are rich in aquatic animals and trees, such as crabs, mudskipper, mangrove trees. Bang Pu is one of the best learning mangrove ecosystems for children, if you want to take them there, we suggest that do not be here in the evening time because there will be lots of mosquitoes here.

The food of the seagulls that we feed them is Crispy Pork Cracklings. Many people are wondering why the seagulls eat Crispy Pork Cracklings because since 1952, at that time, the restaurant on the Suk Ta Bridge had a lot of Crispy Pork Cracklings. Many times, the seagulls stole this in the resterant kitchen including the one that wasted and fell into the water, then they knew that seagulls love this Crispy Pork Cracklings, so this is the reason why we feed them with this one and as well sell this Crispy Pork Cracklings to the tourists as small bags for feeding seagulls.

Now, feeding seagulls is a popular activity for tourists, therefor the way to feed seagulls should be thrown food in the air rather than to feed the bird closely by our hands.

Birds that can be seen at Bang Pu resorts include Big black-headed seagulls(Chroicocephalus ridibundus)), Eastern Black-tailed Godwit(Limosa melanuroides)  and Asian Dowitcher(Limnodromus semipalmatus)

Bang Pu Resort is located at KM 37th, opposite Bangpoo Industrial Estate, Sukhumvit Road, Bang Pu Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province.
